Opening Of New Sinopont Plant, 200 Job Opportunities Ready For Perakians: 1 March 2024

IPOH, 1 March 2024 – The opening of Zhejiang Sinopont Technology Co Ltd (Sinopont) international solar cell encapsulation film manufacturing facility in Perak will create more than 200 job opportunities for Perakians.

Perak Menteri Besar Dato' Seri Saarani Mohamad said the first solar cell encapsulation film factory in the country, i.e. in Perak, will start production by the first quarter of this year.

"God willing, through the development of the next phases, more job opportunities will be created which in turn will drive more investment and prosperity to Perak.

"I was also informed that this factory will later be able to produce solar cell encapsulation film with a production capacity of 85 million square meters to meet the demand of 10 gigawatts (GW)," he said.

He said this when speaking at the Sinopont Factory Opening Ceremony in the Tasek Industrial Area here.

Also present were State Financial Officer Dato' Mohd Zaki Mahyudin, State Tourism, Investment and Corridor Development Committee chairman Loh Sze Yee, Perak State Development Corporation (PKNPk) Chief Executive Datuk Redza Rafiq Abdul Razak, Sinopont chairman Xianglai Cao and heads of departments and agencies.

Dato' Seri Saarani added that the focus on the production of solar cell encapsulation film also clearly showed Perak's commitment to the use of green technology and sustainable development.

"This is in line with the State Government's vision to create a hub for green technology and innovation under Flagship 12 of the Perak Sejahtera Plan 2030.

"The synergy that exists between Sinopont and Perak is a step forward for the state that not only involves the economic aspect, but also emphasises the aspect of stronger, prosperous and sustainable community development in shaping the future of Perak," he said.

Meanwhile, the agreement to open the factory was signed via a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between Zhejiang Sinopont and Perak Investment Management Centre (Invest Perak) in October last year at the Sinopont Headquarters in Hangzhou, China during the Perak State Government's visit to China.
