Three Districts In Perak Record The Highest Number Of Accidents.

TAPAH, 5 April 2024 - Perak has identified the three districts that recorded the highest number of accidents here. The districts were Kinta, Manjung and Taiping.

State Infrastructure, Energy, Water and Public Transport Committee chairman Dato' Seri Mohamad Nizar Jamaluddin said this when launching the Perak State Road Safety Campaign 2024 in conjunction with the coming Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebration at the Petronas Tapah petrol station.

"Based on statistics from the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), from January to October 2023, a total of 495,829 road accidents were recorded with 5,049 deaths.

"The accident statistics for Perak recorded a total of 3,551 accident cases with 52 fatal accidents and 58 deaths. Of this number, Kinta (Ipoh) recorded the highest number of accidents (1,330 cases) with 8 deaths. Followed by Taiping 344 cases with 8 deaths and Manjung 277 cases with 4 deaths," he reporters at the event.

He said there were several factors that contributed to these accidents, including the attitude of road users in a hurry to return to their families, poorly maintained vehicles and imperfect road conditions.

He added that apart from the advocacy programme, enforcement operations throughout the festive season will continue to ensure that users always comply with traffic rules.

"Enforcement activities will be carried out via undercover method as express bus passengers, implementation of Perception of Being Caught (POBC) by patrolling on the main Federal Route, and the Special Motorcycle Ops to be conducted in coordination with the relevant agencies.

At the same time, the Perak Road Safety Council (MKJR) organised the Happy Hour Free Fuel, Free Road Fatality @Petronas Tapah programme, involving giving free RON 95 fuel of RM30 to 300 cars and RM5 to 500 motorcycles.
