TANJUNG MALIM, 18 JUNE 2019 - Local Authorities keen in participating in the youth-friendly urban planning concept in potential areas to be developed are encouraged to submit applications to the Ministry of Federal Territories.

Federal Territories Minister Khalid Abdul Samad said that development of the Tanjung Malim Malaysia Youth City (MYC), fully equipped to meet the needs of today’s youths, would serve as a benchmark for youth-friendly urban planning in other areas in the future.

"So far, among the pilot projects in other areas being developed through this concept are in Sabah (Tuaran), Sarawak (Lundu) and Putrajaya," he said at a media conference during his visit to the Tanjung Malim MYC Development Site.

Also present was State Secretary Haji Zainal Azman Abu Seman.

Khalid, who is also the National Youth Consultative Council Chairman, said the Simpang Renggam District Council had also expressed the desire to develop Bandar Renggam as one of the first youth-friendly cities in the southern region.

"They can apply and express interest and follow the briefings and programmes which Tanjung Malim will be the benchmark, as it is the earliest," he said.

He added that MYC is a concept for overcoming the problems faced by the country including the migration of youths from the suburban and rural areas to urban areas.

At the same time, he also visited the 15-hectare Taman Rimba Bandar (Ujana Muallim) project site in Proton City and MYC components around Tanjung Malim Town Centre.

Meanwhile, National Landscape Department Director-General Hajah Rotina Mohd Daik said Ujana Muallim, completed in April last year at a cost of RM9 million, was part of Proton City's development.

She added that Ujana Muallim, originally a secondary forest area, was also equipped with camping grounds, jungle trekking trails, children’s games, observatory towers, guardhouse, surau and toilets.
