Perak Encourages Investors To Convert Old Buildings Into Tourist Accommodations.

The award was last held in 2017.

IPOH, 19 April 2024 - The Perak State Government is encouraging all tourism-related investors to take over old and abandoned buildings and convert them into suitable accommodations for tourists in the state.

State Tourism, Industry, Investment and Corridor Development Committee chairman Loh Sze Yee told reporters when officiating the Perak Tourism Awards 2024 Pre-Launch Ceremony in conjunction with Visit Perak Year 2024 at Hotel MU here.

"The demand for tourists to spend the night in this state is high, but due to the lack of accommodations, most of them choose neighbouring states like Penang to stay overnight.

"We are not asking developers to build five or six-star hotels, but just to take over old buildings that are suitable," he said.

He added that the State Government via Tourism Perak Management Berhad and the related agencies will assist in the marketing aspect and overall promotion to interested investors.

Meanwhile, Tourism Perak Management Berhad will hold the Perak Tourism Awards 2024 on 13 September this year in appreciation and recognition of the service, support and sacrifice of industry players who are committed to promoting the Perak tourism industry.

According to Tourism Perak Management Berhad, a total of 40 awards will be competed in various categories, including accommodation, services, tourism products and food.

The award was last held in 2017. Nominations will be open for two months from 1 May until 30 June 2024.

Also present were Selama District Council president Nor Akmal Yang Ghazali, Perak Tourism chairman Dato' Mohd Kamil Shafie and Tourism Perak chief executive officer Nurmalis Musa.
