IPOH, 10 December 2020 – HRH Sultan of Perak Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah has consented to the appointment of Kota Tampan assemblyman Dato’ Saarani Mohamad as the new Perak Menteri Besar.

The Sultan also expressed his appreciation to Dato’ Saarani Mohamad for being given the responsibility as the 14th Perak Menteri Besar.

"In accordance with the Perak Constitution, the ADUN Kota Tampan has gained the trust of the majority of the State Assembly members to be appointed as the new Menteri Besar.

"I wish to congratulate Dato' Saarani for being given the trust and responsibility as the Menteri Besar of ‘my government’,” he said.

The Ruler stressed that every ADUN elected by the people must continue to carry out the trust given, regardless whether from the government ADUNs or the opposition.

"Responsibility and trust should not be taken lightly or disregarded, as the people of Perak want a peaceful and prosperous state, with a government that administers justice and fosters unity so that the people can live harmoniously with mutual respect.

“The common people should not be made ‘like the mouse deer trampled to death in between because the elephants are constantly fighting,” he said at the Menteri Besar Appointment and Swearing-In Ceremony at Istana Iskandariah here this morning.

Dato' Saarani Mohamad was appointed to replace Dato' Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu who resigned along with all the State Executive Council Members on 5 December.
