IPOH, 23 July 2021- The Perak State Government welcomes the Public-Private Partnership COVID-19 Industry Immunisation Programme (PIKAS) launched by the Ministry of International Trade and Industry (MITI).

Perak Menteri Besar Dato' Saarani Mohamad said this step is included in Phase 4 of the National COVID-19 Immunisation Programme which aims to help accelerate vaccination among the people by targeting the workforce in critical manufacturing sectors.

“For Perak, we have already opened three Industry Vaccination Centres (PPVs) –  Proton Sports Complex on 12 July, Convention Centre@Casuarina Meru and Sapura Fabrication Sdn. Bhd on 21 July.

“The Convention Centre@Casuarina Meru PPV is a General Use PPV (involving convention and exhibition centres including hotels), while the Proton Sports Complex and Sapura Fabrication Sdn. Bhd PPVs are On-Site PPVs (factory premises),” he said.

He said this at a press conference after inspecting the vaccination process at the Convention Centre@Casuarina Meru PPV here today.

Also present were State Secretary Dato' Ahmad Suaidi Abdul Rahim, State Industry, Investment and Corridor Development Committee Chairman Dato' Shahrul Zaman Yahaya and Perak State Development Corporation Chief Executive Datuk Redza Rafiq Abdul Razak.

Dato' Saarani added that the state government has taken note of issues arising from the COVID-19 vaccination programme in Perak, such as the vaccine supply issue.

“Perak has the capacity to perform more than 30,000 jabs a day, but this capacity is subject to vaccine supply. Previously, Perak was scheduled to receive 688,760 vaccine supplies for July 2021.

“So far, Perak has received 452,610 of the 688,760 doses of vaccine scheduled and we hope to receive the entire scheduled amount before the end of this month.

"Also, until 21 July 2021, 600,627 people (32.25% of Perak’s total population aged 18 and above) have received the first dose and 311,793 people (10.8%) have received the second dose," he said.

The Perak State Government will open the fourth PIKAS PPV in the state, namely, at St. Louis Hall, Taiping which will begin operations next week.
