The Perak Menteri Besar during his working visit to Gamuda Berhad.

KUALA LUMPUR, 6 February 2025 – Perak Menteri Besar Dato' Seri Saarani Mohamad led a State Government delegation on a working visit to Gamuda Berhad at Menara Gamuda, Petaling Jaya here.

The visit aimed to strengthen strategic cooperation in innovation and infrastructure development, in line with Perak's aspiration to become a developed and competitive state in the digital era.

Gamuda, a leading construction company founded in Ipoh in 1976, continues to make the country proud with its global success through high-impact engineering and technology projects.

The company made history as the only local entity chosen to develop the Google Data Centre in Elmina, Shah Alam, thus cementing Malaysia as a regional technology hub.

Gamuda also established the Gamuda AI Academy, leveraging Google technology to train the local workforce in artificial intelligence (AI) and bridge the country's digital skills gap.

Through this working visit, the State Government learned how Gamuda's culture of innovation and digitalisation has successfully propelled its competitiveness in the international construction and technology industry.

By understanding the company's successful strategy, Perak can explore new approaches in empowering innovation, digitalisation, and socio-economic and infrastructure growth in the state.

More significantly, Gamuda has expressed its readiness to become the state government’s strategic partner in realising the Perak Sejahtera 2030 goals, focussing on sustainable and innovative development.

Also present were State Secretary Dato' Ahmad Suaidi Abdul Rahim, State Exco Members, Perak State Development Corporation (PKNPk) CEO Datuk Redza Rafiq Abdul Razak, Gamuda Berhad Group Managing Director Dato' Lin Yun Ling, Gamuda Engineering Executive Director Dato' Azmi Mat Nor, Deputy State Secretary (Development) Halizah Sipun, Institut Darul Ridzuan (IDR) CEO Dr. Maisarah Ahmad, PKNPk Digital Economy Development Director Mohammad Effendi Abdul Talib, and Gamuda Berhad representatives.

Adding an important dimension to the visit, on 5 February 2025, PKNPk and Gamuda Berhad signed an exclusive agreement to develop sustainable water infrastructure to address critical water shortage problems in northern Perak. It involves facilitating raw water transfer from Sungai Perak to Bukit Merah and the development of modern infrastructure for treated water distribution for the agricultural sectors and local residents’ daily use.

Through this scheme, the transfer of raw water from Sungai Perak to Bukit Merah will be facilitated, accompanied by the development of modern infrastructure for the distribution of treated water for the agricultural sectors and the daily use of residents in the region.

This step proves that the Perak State Government is not only committed to bringing innovation to the state, but also in ensuring the sustainability of basic infrastructure that benefits the people.
