IPOH, 5 November 2020 - HRH Sultan of Perak Sultan Nazrin Muizzudin Shah has consented to the early release of two prisoners in Perak in conjunction with HRH Sultan of Perak’s Birthday Celebration 2020 on 6 November.
Perak Pardons Board secretary Dato’ Ahmad Suaidi Abdul Rahim said HRH Sultan Nazrin Shah decreed that the two prisoners who should have been released on 18 May 2022 and 24 June 2023 respectively, be granted early release effective 6 November.
"After considering the Malaysian Prisons Department report, Attorney-General’s views and board members’ comments, the Sultan was satisfied that the punishment endured by the two prisoners had taught them useful lessons to mend their ways " he told a press conference in conjunction with HRH Sultan of Perak’s Birthday Celebration 2020 at Laman Seri Ridzuan.
Also present were Orang Kaya Bendahara Seri Maharaja Jen. Dato’ Seri Diraja Tan Sri (Dr.) Mohd Zahidi Zainuddin and Dewan Negara Perak member Dato’ Seri Mohd Annuar Zaini.
Dato' Ahmad Suaidi said in conjunction with the Ruler’s 64th birthday, Sultan Nazrin chaired the Perak State Pardons Board meeting on 3 November.
He added that at the meeting, there were 12 appeals submitted for His Royal Highness to consider, but only two appeals were granted pardons.
“Sultan Nazrin also said that a sentence imposed is intended to teach the community to uphold the country’s laws.
"A pardon of a sentence which has been decided by the court will only be considered when the prisoner has shown remorse and regretted committing the offence and behaving well while in prison," he said.
Meanwhile, all premises in the state are encouraged to fly the flag and turn on the lights until 12 midnight on 5 and 6 November.
All these efforts are to instill the spirit of loyalty among the people towards HRH Sultan of Perak.
