IPOH, 23 March 2021- The Perak state government intends to expand the Ipoh City Action Plan 2020-2030 concept to towns throughout the state.
Perak Menteri Besar Dato' Saarani Mohamad said after the Ipoh City Council (MBI), it will be expanded to municipal council areas such as Manjung, Taiping and Kuala Kangsar.
“The smart city was started in Ipoh City at the beginning because it is the state capital, in addition to having infrastructure facilities that have been developed earlier.
"We not only want to have a smart city but we also want to make this state a smart state," he said.
He said this in a press conference at the Ipoh Smart City Action Plan 2020-2030 Launch Ceremony at Kinta Riverfront here today.
Also present were State Housing, Local Government and Tourism Committee Chairman Dato' Nolee Ashilin Mohammed Radzi and Ipoh Mayor Dato’ Rumaizi Baharin.
Earlier in his speech, Dato' Saarani hoped that the action plan would be a document navigating MBI so that the state capital would also be a smart, liveable, resilient and sustainable city by 2030.
“For that purpose, several objectives have been structured to make Ipoh City an information technology-friendly city to resolve urban problems through the use of smart solutions and make Ipoh residents cheerful, healthy, smart and possess technological skills.
“Generally, the Ipoh Smart City Action Plan document has targeted seven domains, namely Smart Living, Smart Environment, Smart Governance, Smart People, Smart Digital Infrastructure, Smart Economy and Smart Mobility as solutions to the 24 urban challenges and potentials identified in Ipoh City,” he said.
The action plan has identified 37 projects that outlined four phases of implementation within 10 years, comprising quick win projects, short-term, medium and long-term projects.
Besides that, Dato' Saarani also wants to make the plan a catalyst for MBI’s bigger plans in the future, including implementing an automated city management system, especially in the traffic management system, vacant parking bays identification system, info on weather and location of disasters or flash floods, garbage collection system, and management of summonses and complaints.
