MUALLIM, 8 April 2021: The Orang Asli community in Ulu Slim has welcomed the state government's move to promote and register for vaccine manually.

According to Kampung Gesau Orang Asli Community Tok Batin Rozi Daharai, 43, such an approach would help increase the percentage of vaccine registration for the Orang Asli community.

"As we can see, the understanding of vaccines among the Orang Asli community is very low and to help them, I request that promotions and information be conducted again as there are those in our community who have missed such programmes.

"This method is important not only to the Orang Asli community but also to all races and ethnicities because it is about public health," he said when interviewed after the Menteri Besar Afternoon Tea with Orang Asli Community programme here.

He added that so far, about 30% of the Ulu Slim Orang Asli community representing five villages, involving more than 1,500 Orang Asli have registered from the efforts of the Orang Asli Development Department (JAKOA).

Through the promotions and manual methods used, he hoped the percentage of recipients would increase to at least 50 percent.

Meanwhile, Kuala Bil resident Nur Shaz Diana, 18, said the increase in positive cases to more than 1,000 cases a day should be a lesson to the public to register as vaccine recipients.

"To protect yourself and family, stay away from COVID-19 infection; and make adherence to Standard Operating Procedures the new normal daily life.

"Vaccines are important for the good of everyone and I strongly encourage more people to register as soon as possible,” she said.

The state government via the Perak Information Department (JaPen) collaborating with the Orang Asli Development Department would expand the promotion and registration method to all 266 Orang Asli villages in Perak.

The programme carried out is in line with the government's target to complete the vaccination of the people by this December at the latest.
