Perak Targets 10 Million Trees To Be Planted By 2025: 10 April 2021

LENGGONG, 10 April 2021 – The Perak State Government is targeting 10 million trees to be planted throughout the state during the Greening Malaysia Programme implementation period until 2025.

According to Perak Menteri Besar Dato' Saarani Mohamad, the state government is committed to being a leader in resource and environmental sustainability by creating the "Perak Bumi Lestari" agenda.

In his speech, he hoped that the State Forestry Department could play the main function in preserving the sustainability of forests and natural resources in Perak.

“Use as much as possible the platform of the Greening Malaysia Programme - 100 Million Tree-Planting Campaign as a strategy to get closer to the people’s heart by persuading them to carry out greening in their respective places.

"The 'One Person, One Tree' initiative can be adapted to the concept of 'Our Tree, Our Life’. To give awareness to the people to love the forests more by expanding public awareness via the cooperation of NGOs in dealing with the problem of illegal encroachment and clearing of permanent forest reserves," he said.

The Menteri Besar said this when officiating the Greening Malaysia Programme: Tasik Raban Lenggong in conjunction with the Perak State Level 100 Million Tree-Planting Campaign at Dataran Tasik Raban, Lenggong.

Through this programme, 51 species of local trees with names synonymous with names of places in Perak have been planted. Among the trees planted were Pokok Merbau, Pokok Cengal, Pokok Ipoh, Pokok Beruas, Pokok Kangsar, and others.

Meanwhile, 4 companies were awarded the Perak Oxygen Land Bank certificates and 11 other companies received the Perak Green Earth Programme certificates.

Also present were Energy and Natural Resources Minister Datuk Dr Shamsul Anuar Nasarah, State Secretary Dato' Ahmad Suaidi Abdul Rahim and Tenaga Nasional Berhad CEO Datuk Ir Baharin Din.
