KERIAN, 18 June 2021 - The response at the Dewan Kerian Permai Vaccination Centre (PPV), Parit Buntar and PPV Dewan Dato Zainal Abidin Zin, Bagan Serai has increased among the residents of Kerian district. This was evident when the attendance of vaccine recipients increased from 65% on 3 May 2021 to 90.7% on 13 June 2021.
Kerian District Officer Mohd Sabli Bakri said during the Enhanced Movement Control Order (EMCO) in Parit Buntar sub-district, the Kerian District Council had applied for SOP relaxation from the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) to allow its residents to get vaccinated. However, the first dose to the residents of Taman Kerian Tambahan, Parit Buntar had to be postponed during the EMCO.
"For the second dose vaccine, the district health staff have taken the initiative to give the vaccine directly from house to house using health office vehicles and residents can also get the vaccine at the Covid-19 screening centre at the housing estate during the EMCO period,” he added.
“The challenge in this district is when many residents have to travel back and forth across the state to work in Penang. The risk also increases when they stop by the shops on their way home from work and this is one of the causes of the spread of Covid-19 here. We hope that these workers who have to commute are more compliant with the Covid-19 SOP set by the Ministry of Health Malaysia (MOH).
"As of 13 June 2021, 9,996 residents have received the first dose vaccine and a total of 7,186 residents have received the second dose vaccine,” he told reporters during a virtual meeting.
He was very grateful and appreciated the efforts of 96 civil servants and volunteers who helped make the vaccination process a success in both PPVs in the district. Among them were the Royal Malaysian Police, RELA, Malaysian Civil Defence Force and health personnel. There were also volunteers registered via Malaysia Vaccine Support Volunteers (MyVAC) and Skuad Agen Basmi Covid-19 (ABC-19).
Meanwhile, Kilang Siang Heng Plastic Ware Sdn Bhd (Century brand products) has sent 9 workers as volunteers at PPV Taman Wawasan Jaya, Parit Buntar.
“Kerian District Council member Ooi Thian Wee has worked with the Company's Director Dato Teoh Boon Thong to assist in the vaccination process. We have assisted residents in terms of transportation, language translation and sponsoring necessities such as additional tents and other equipment.
"We also provided food such as rice, bread and eggs to the residents of Taman Kerian Tambahan EMCO area," said Tan Siew Lee, Human Resource Manager of Kilang Siang Heng Plastic Ware Sdn Bhd during a virtual interview with reporters.
