IPOH, 8 October 2021- The Perak Civil Defense Force via the State Disaster Management Committee (JPBN) has conducted an online Webinar Programme - Preparation for Dam Disaster in Perak in conjunction with the National Preparedness Month 2021.

State Secretary Dato' Ahmad Suaidi Abdul Rahim said the National Preparedness Month (NPM) 2021 was launched by Prime Minister Dato' Sri Ismail Sabri Yaakob on 5 October 2021, in line with the International Disaster Day celebration every year on 13 October.

"Through this year's theme, 'Malaysian Family Prepared For Disaster', we wish to take a safety approach that starts from home. This is because a culture of preparedness among the people must be nurtured because all parties have shared roles and responsibilities.

"Besides, disaster preparedness has become the responsibility of every individual because everyone is at risk for potential disasters. All parties have shared roles and responsibilities in line with the theme of NPM 2021,” he said.

He said this in his speech at the online Webinar Programme - Preparation for Dam Disasters in Perak in conjunction with the National Preparedness Month 2021 at Bangunan Perak Darul Ridzuan here.

Also present were Deputy State Secretary (Management)Nor Sham Rahman and Civil Defense Force Director Noor Azam Johari.

Dato’ Ahmad Suaidi said the culture of preparedness among the people must involve the integrated cooperation of all government agencies starting from the federal, state and district levels as well as private sectors and Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs), including individuals.

“All citizens must strive to maximise the level of disaster preparedness to ensure safety of life is given priority and minimise the destruction of infrastructure as well as reduce losses to society, industry, government and the country as a whole.

"Thus, the initiative to organise this webinar for the State and District Disaster Management Committee members is a preparatory step to face any eventuality that may occur to the dams and drainage in Perak," he added.

Meanwhile, JPBN also invited DID Perak as the agency responsible for regulating water drainage in Perak, to discuss the irrigation and emergency systems to be used in the event of a disaster.

The partnership from these two agencies is very important so that all members in JPBN and JPBD can see and know a little about the dams, and be able to make preparations to deal with disasters caused by dams and actions to be taken when there is a sudden increase in water in the existing drainage in Perak.
