IPOH, 9 October 2021 – The Perak State Level National Sports Day 2021 was held in moderation and in accordance with the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) set to prevent the spread of COVID-19 infection.
Perak Menteri Besar Dato' Saarani Mohamad said despite the health crisis that still plagues the country, the National Sports Day celebration remains lively and gives a special meaning to all of us.
“I call on the community, especially in Perak, to support this effort and together respond to the spirit of National Sports Day by holding sports activities in their respective residential areas and communities, individually or in groups.
“I would like to remind myself and all of us that whatever sports activities are carried out, let it be guided by the Sports and Recreation SOP still in force even if there are certain relaxations, we should not feel too comfortable or forget that we are still facing a health crisis," he said.
He said this in his speech in conjunction with the Perak State Level National Sports Day Launch Ceremony at the Indera Mulia Stadium here.
Also present were State Secretary Dato' Ahmad Suaidi Abdul Rahim, State Legal Adviser Azmir Shah Zainal Abidin, State Financial Officer Dato' Zulazlan Abu Hassan, Ipoh Mayor Dato’ Rumaizi Baharin, Perak Police Chief Dato' Pahlawan Mior Faridalathrash Wahid and State Executive Council Members.
Dato' Saarani said sports can be an important platform in our efforts to form a harmonious and united Malaysian Family.
“For decades, sports has taught us to fully understand the meaning of unity, cooperation and instill a sense of love for the country and besides that, sports has bound us as a nation with strong values of love.
“We should never tarnish the beauty and peace of sports with negative elements or views. Make sports as a bridge for us to be more united, understand each other and a stage for us to bring glory to the country,” he added.
At the same time, Dato’ Saarani hoped that the success of Perak Paralympic athlete Cheah Liek Hou, who won gold at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympics will be a source of encouragement to young people that sports is a career that can guarantee the future and ultimately contribute to the economy of self, family and country.
