KUALA KANGSAR, 9 November 2021- Perak Menteri Besar Dato' Saarani Mohamad officiated the Perak State Teachers’ Day Celebration 2021 organised by the State Education Department at Dewan Jubli Perak here today.
The Menteri Besar described the Teachers Day theme ‘Learning for Knowledge, Shaping a New Generation’ as befitting the situation faced by educators for almost two years.
“Classrooms are turning into Google Classroom, Google Docs, Google Slides and Google Meet, where before they were foreign terms for us. When schools were closed, WhatsApp, Telegram, WeChat and Facebook became intermediaries between teachers and students.
“We have entered a new dimension of education which is so different in nature. These challenges come with wisdom that further develops the teaching profession. With the pearls of wisdom, hopefully, teachers will be stronger to face challenges in the coming days, God willing," he said in his speech.
Also present were Kuala Kangsar District Territorial Chief Orang Kaya Temenggong Paduka Raja Dato' Seri Wan Mohd. Fathir@Wan Fadzir Wan Hussain, State Education, Higher Education and Human Resources Committee Chairman Ahmad Saidi Mohamad Daud, Perak Education Director Dato' Dr. Mohd Suhaimi Mohamed Ali and Kuala Kangsar District Officer Zulhisham Ahmad Shukori.
At the ceremony, former principal of Sekolah Tunku Abdul Rahman (STAR), Ipoh, Abdul Hashim Abdul Karim, 63, was named Tokoh Guru Negeri Perak 2021.
Abdul Hashim said the award encouraged him to continue to contribute to the community and be ready to share his experience and expertise despite ending his service in 2019.
“I would like to inform the teachers out there, that is the most important thing. We do our best, we need to consider other people's children as our own and God will provide the best for our children," he told reporters.
As a former teacher in the field of agriculture, he would like to encourage young people to venture into the same field.
“The field of agriculture is very wide and can provide bright opportunities for young people. Malaysia has a lot of idle land in Perak, Kelantan, Terengganu and Pahang. We should develop these lands to change the future for ourselves and our families.
"The government also calls on the youth to venture into agriculture such as rearing Talapia fish, free-range chickens as well as expanding fertigation cultivation methods, for example, chili planting," he explained.
