The State Assembly Speaker at the14th Perak State Assembly sitting.

IPOH, 20 December 2021- The 2nd Meeting, 4th Year of the 14th Perak State Assembly was conducted successfully without any outbreak of COVID-19.

Perak State Assembly Speaker Dato' Mohammad Zahir Abdul Khalid said, at the sitting, the Perak State Budget was successfully tabled by the Menteri Besar, debated by the assembly members and then approved unanimously on 17 December 2021, the sixth day of the sitting.

“On the last day of the sitting, the Syariah Court Enactment (Perak) (Amendment) 2021 was also approved unanimously. Similarly, the Proposed Amendment of the Perak State Assembly Standing Orders, and the Proposed Addition of Terms of Reference and Jurisdiction of the Special Select Committee to Study the New Building of the Perak State Assembly were concluded.

"Besides that, a Special Select Committee has been established, i.e., the Special Select Committee to Review the Perak State Enactments and it is the first to be formed by the State Assembly," he said.

He said this in a media statement issued by the Perak State Assembly.

Dato' Mohammad Zahir once again thanked and congratulated everyone for successfully complying with the standard operating procedures set.

“Thank you to all assembly members for successfully adhering to the SOPs and ensuring the sitting conducted on 10 to 20 December 2021 was carried out smoothly, without any incidents of COVID-19 infection.

“I would also like to express my deepest appreciation for the efforts and cooperation given by the Perak State Secretariat, Perak Health Department, Perak National Security Council and all staff involved directly or indirectly in the success of the Perak State Assembly Sitting," he added.

The election of two Senators from Perak was also held on the final day of the sitting. By written ballot conducted, Dato’ Iskandar Dzulkarnain Abdul Khalid and Dato' Shamsuddin Abd Ghaffar received the highest number of votes to fill the two vacancies.
