IPOH, 5 January 2022 - The Perak tourism sector offers more than 2,500 job opportunities at the Larut Matang & Selama District Career & TVET Carnival programme to be held at the Taman Kaya Multipurpose Hall, Taiping on 8 January 2022 (Saturday).
The programme organised by Pusat Aspirasi Anak Perak (PASAK) with Malaysian Inbound Tourism Association (MITA), Northern Corridor Implementation Authority (NCER), Tourism Malaysia Northern Region and Tourism Perak is to address the shortage of workers, especially for the tourism sector in Perak which was affected during the COVID-19 pandemic.
State Housing, Local Government and Tourism Committee Chairman Dato' Nolee Ashilin Mohammed Radzi said the issue of labor shortage was a great challenge for industry players after movements across districts and states were allowed.
“This is because many employees have previously switched to other careers and become small entrepreneurs.
"As many foreign workers have also returned to their respective countries, this then is a career opportunity, especially for the locals," she said in a press conference at Bangunan Perak Darul Ridzuan today.
She added that a career in this field is a noble job because it can boost the local and national economy. In fact, it can provide opportunities for locals and reduce dependence on foreign workers.
The state government via PASAK and related agencies plan to provide encouragement and specific training both in terms of upskilling and reskilling for those interested in this field.
Meanwhile, PASAK General Manager Mohamad Fikri Mohd Junit said the Career & TVET Carnival would be held in all 12 districts in Perak.
Also present were MITA President Uzaidi Udanis, NCER Port Head of Service Muhammad Zaki Mohd Samandan and Hisham Yusof of MITA Perak.
