IPOH, 12 May 2022 - The state government through the State Sports Council (MSN) has never ignored former athletes who have brought glory to Perak.

State Youth, Sports and Communication Committee Chairman Khairul Shahril Mohamed said the state government was very concerned for the fate of former state athletes for their sacrifices and good deeds.

“We will try to give the best possible help to former athletes who are facing difficulties in life.

"Many times I have stressed to all parties, if they have information related to the difficulties faced by our former athletes, share with us so as not to overlook the problems faced by them," he said.

He said this after officiating the Former Perak Athletes Welfare Aid Cheques Handover Ceremony at RPT Buntong 8 here.

At the ceremony, he presented a welfare aid cheque to Magilarasan A/L Mirah, a former racewalking athlete who had represented Perak in SUKMA 1986-1988.

Magilarasan, who is also a staff of the Ipoh City Council (MBI) since 1989 has been suffering from diabetes and his leg has been amputated.

Khairul Shahril also reminded new athletes to be prepared to face any eventuality in the future.

“We know an athlete’s service may end when they are over 30 years old, so they must to be prepared to think about preparing for that phase.

“In that phase, athletes need to think of the best ways to help themselves, such as taking a coaching license, doing business based on their expertise and so forth,” he added.

Also present were State Sports Council Director Mazlan Mohamad and MBI City Council Secretary Ahmad Munir Ishak.
