Dato' Zulazlan Abu Hassan called on civil servants and agency staff to always be sensitive in practising a high culture of integrity.

IPOH, 2 June 2022 - State Financial Officer Dato' Zulazlan Abu Hassan called on civil servants and agency staff of the Perak State Government to always be sensitive in practising a high culture of integrity to tackle corruption, specifically in financial management.

He said this during the ‘Executive Talk: Accountability and Integrity in Public Financial Management’ programme at Bangunan Perak Darul Ridzuan.

He added that one of the ways to address this issue is for every department head to check every contract signed carefully so that when something unexpected happens, it would not be detrimental to the government to rectify the situation.

“Mistakes often happen when a contract is signed in a hurry and desperation without us having time to refine the terms and conditions in the agreement. When something unexpected happens, it will inevitably be a loss to the government in terms of funds to rectify the mistake.

“This matter needs to be given attention and each contract needs to be referred to the latest law. It is not enough if the law exists but not used, and eventually there is corruption or malpractice due to this negligence,” he said in his welcoming speech.

Also present were Deputy State Financial Officer Aida Hazlyn Hassan, Deputy State Treasurer (Accounting Services and Operations) Nor Shuhaiza Mohd Redzuan, State Secretariat Internal Audit Head Roslan, department heads and state agency staff.

A knowledge sharing session on ‘Introduction to AG’s Dashboard and Auditor General’s Report Issues’ was conducted by Dr. Sarimah Umor, Deputy Director of Audit, Audit Follow-Up Division, National Audit Department.

The next knowledge sharing session on ‘Integrity and Accountability in Procurement’ was by former Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission Community Education Division Director Dato’ Abdul Samat Kasah.
