IPOH, 8 June 2022 - The state government through the Perak State Development Corporation (PKNPk) today signed a joint venture agreement with Syarikat Kangsar Hidro Sdn Bhd to strengthen Green Technology initiatives via the Development of Mini Hydroelectric Project (Hidro 2).

Perak Menteri Besar Dato' Seri Saarani Mohamad said this collaboration effort is to meet the generation capacity approved by the Sustainable Energy Development Authority (SEDA) Malaysia which is 59.77 MW with an estimated project investment of RM400 million.

“To make this project a success, PKNPk will play an active role as a facilitator in attracting private sector investment by establishing strategic cooperation with industry players.

“Hidro 2 is expected to operate in 2027 to create new business opportunities and offer about 400 to 500 job opportunities in related fields and expertise.

"The state government sees this joint venture as very important as Renewable Energy will be the largest source of energy in Malaysia by 2040 in line with the promotion of sustainable energy use globally," he said in a press conference after the Signing of Agreement for Renewable Energy Initiative Via Hydro Project 2 Ceremony at Bangunan Perak Darul Ridzuan.

According to PKNPk Chief Executive Datuk Redza Rafiq Abdul Razak, the project will involve six river district locations, namely Hulu Perak, Larut Matang and Selama, Hilir Perak, Kuala Kangsar, Batang Padang and Muallim.

Also present were State Financial Officer Dato' Zulazlan Abu Hassan, State Industry, Investment and Corridor Development Committee Chairman Dato’ Shahrul Zaman Yahya, State Health, Science, Environment and Green Technology Committee Chairman Mohd Akmal Kamarudin and Kangsar Hidro Sdn Bhd Chief Executive Officer Syaril Ahmad Tajuddin.
