IPOH, 2 August 2022 - The state government has agreed to approve the cost of RM400,500 to supply 30 rescue boats to the Perak Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM).

The symbolic handing over of the boats was performed by Perak Menteri Besar Dato' Seri Saarani Mohamad during the Royal Malaysian Police Perak Contingent Rescue Boat Handover Ceremony at the Senior Police Officers’ Mess this morning.

"I received a request from the Perak Police Chief regarding the need for the police to be given rescue boats after being hit by floods several times, whether flash floods or floods during the monsoon season.

"Each district will receive two of these boats complete with engines and life jackets for 6 or more passengers," he explained.

He added that the design of the boat is more flexible and its small size makes it easier to go to residential and roofed areas when carrying out the rescue process.

"If we use a big boat, it will create strong waves and make the rescue process difficult or may drown other victims. Big boats are also difficult to pass between houses," he told reporters after the ceremony.

He hoped that this aid will to some extent help PDRM to carry out their duties well when helping the public. Furthermore, these boats can also be used during operations to rescue drowning victims and so forth.

Also present were Perak Police Chief Dato' Pahlawan Mior Faridalathrash Wahid, Deputy Perak Police Chief Dato' Pahlawan Azizi Mat Aris and SMSR Resources Director Syed Shukran Syed Muhamad.
