BAGAN SERAI, 29 AUGUST 2022 - The Perak State Government is offering monetary incentives to athletes who win medals or break records at the 20th Malaysia Games (SUKMA) to be held from 16-24 September 2022 around the Klang Valley.

Perak Menteri Besar Dato' Seri Saarani Mohamad said the incentives will be given according to individual and team categories to increase the athletes’ fighting spirit.

"For the individual category, each gold medalist will receive an incentive of RM5,000, silver medalist RM3,000 and bronze medalist RM1,000.

"While for the team category, each individual will get RM2,500 for a gold medal, RM1,500 for a silver medal and RM500 for a bronze medal.

"For athletes who break SUKMA records, they will be given an incentive of RM1,000 each.

"These incentives are to fire up their enthusiasm to carry the Perak flag, vision and mission to achieve success when competing later.”

He said this to reporters after officiating the Perak Contingent Flag Handover Ceremony for SUKMA Games 2022 at Dewan Sebarau, Bukit Merah Laketown Resort.

For this year's SUKMA Games, the Perak contingent is targeting 50 gold medals based on the state athletes’ current performance.

He added that a total of 531 Perak athletes will participate in 426 events in 31 different sports that will be competed at the Games.

Also present were State Secretary Dato' Ahmad Suaidi Abdul Rahim, State Legal Adviser Dato' Azmir Shah Zainal Abidin, State Financial Officer Mohd Zaki Mahyudin, State Youth, Sports, Communication and Multimedia Committee Chairman Khairul Shahril Mohamed, State Infrastructure, Energy, Water and Public Transport Committee Chairman Dato' Mohd Zolkafly Harun and Perak SUKMA 2022 Contingent Head Johari Sham Ahmad Shohor Affendi.
