SIPUT RIVER, 6 September 2022 - Perak is the first state to give 1,571 learner’s licences or L Licences for free to the B40 group, Orang Asli and disabled people via the Prosperous Perak Motorcycle Licence Programme.
State Infrastructure, Energy, Water and Public Transport Committee Chairman Dato' Mohd Zolkafly Harun said Perak is the first state to give free L licence to the selected groups after they have attended a written course and been certified eligible by the Road Transport Department (JPJ).
"The licence is given through the Economic Stimulus Package (PRE) to those who qualify throughout the districts in Perak.
"A total of 600 people have already received the L licence, while the remaining recipients will be given at the end of September or early October," he said.
He said this after officiating the Prosperous Perak Motorcycle Licence Handover Ceremony on behalf of Perak Menteri Besar Dato' Seri Saarani Mohamad at the Orang Asli One Stop Centre (OAOSC) in Bawong here.
Also present were Perak Road Transport Department Director Mohammad Yusoff Abustan and Kuala Kangsar District Officer Zulhisham Ahmad Shukori.
Dato' Mohd Zolkafly added that the number of licence recipients was based on the allocation approved by the state government.
"If up to us, this is not enough, but it is based on the allocation of half a million ringgit approved via PRE, thus only 1,571 people are eligible to receive the L licence.
"Therefore, I intend to continue such programme and will suggest that it be included in the 2023 Budget," he said.
