The Perak Government has expressed its sadness over the Batang Kali landslide incident.
IPOH, 19 December 2022 - The Perak State Government has expressed its sadness over the Batang Kali landslide incident and offered its condolences to the families of the victims and those who died.
State Infrastructure, Energy, Water and Public Transport Committee Chairman Dato' Seri Ir Mohammad Nizar Jamaluddin said the Perak Government hoped that the incident will serve as a lesson so that it does not happen in the state.
"Thus, I will monitor the current situation with the Public Works Department (PWD) so that the incident in Batang Kali does not happen again in Perak.
"There are 239 slope locations categorised as very high risk, 211 high risk areas, 642 medium risk areas, 777 low risk areas and 1562 very low risk areas," he said.
He said this in a press conference at the Perak State Secretariat Building Media Conference Room here.
Dato' Seri Ir Nizar Jamaluddin added that there are three very critical routes at the moment which are Jalan Tapah - Cameron Highland (FT059), Jalan Baling - Grik (FT004) (East - West Highway) and Jalan Simpang Pulai - Blue Valley (FT185).
"PWD advises the users of the following roads to be more careful especially during the heavy rain season as there is no need to close the roads for the time being.
"Also, the PWD has installed sensors and rain gauges in the critical slope locations, which can relay early warning to the department for monitoring and emergency actions," he said.
As a result of monitoring by the Perak PWD, there are no more locations with the potential to experience landslides and the State Government will continue to focus on increasing the level of safety in risky areas.
