IPOH, 18 January 2023 - The Perak State Government presented contributions to 120 students to safeguard and look after the welfare of orphans who lost their parents or guardians due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

The contributions were presented by Perak Menteri Besar Dato' Seri Saarani Mohamad during the Perak Children Caring Programme Launch Ceremony at Bangunan Perak Darul Ridzuan this afternoon.

"With an allocation of RM1.5 million since 2022, this programme offers five types of aid comprising school necessities, scholarships, device assistance, special aid as well as payment of FELCRA Berhad dividends, thus easing the burden borne by their families.

"For FELCRA Berhad, in 2022 alone, it has contributed as much as RM252,000 in the form of dividend payments to the guardians.

"For 2023, RM432,000 will be allocated by FELCRA for this programme," he explained.

Also present were State Secretary Dato' Ahmad Suaidi Abdul Rahim, State Legal Adviser Dato' Azmir Shah Zainal, State Financial Officer Mohd Zaki Mahyudin, State Education, Higher Education, Youth and Sports Committee Chairman Khairudin Abu Hanipah, Perak Islamic Religious Department Director Harith Fadzilah Abdul Halim, Perak Education Department Student Development Sector Deputy Education Director Zulkafli Mohamed Mokhtar and FELCRA BERHAD Perak Region General Manager Yusoff Razali.

According to Khairudin Abu Hanipah, the five types of aid are - the first, caring school necessities aid of RM250 per year for primary school and RM500 for secondary school.

The second is the caring scholarship. Aid in the form of monthly self-sufficiency assistance is channeled directly to the recipient at RM100 per month for primary school, RM150 for secondary school and RM500 per semester for Higher Education Institution students.

Next is the caring device assistance where electronic devices are provided to all primary and secondary level students, including IPT students.

Then there is the caring special assistance, such as wheelchairs, hearing aids, prosthetic legs, spectacles and other support equipment for students in need.

The last type of assistance is the caring FELCRA shares aid. This assistance is given to every qualified legal guardian at the rate of RM300 per month.
