KUALA KANGSAR, 4 March 2023 – HRH Sultan of Perak Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah said the royal institution needs to appreciate the people’s high expectations and to act as an arbitrator that is fair, impartial, neutral and be above all political polemics.

HRH Sultan Nazrin said the effectiveness of a government requires shared responsibility in the spirit of 'through thick and thin’ and the royal institution’s role as an umbrella of unity in diversity needs to be understood and implemented.

"The throne (royal institution) needs to be dynamic, fulfilling its role as a unifying umbrella, meeting the people's expectations, a catalyst and harmonising relationships among the people of various races, religions, cultures and languages," said the Sultan.

The Perak Ruler said this during the Pledge of Loyalty and Investiture Ceremony in conjunction with his 66th Birthday Celebration at Istana Iskandariah Kuala Kangsar here.

Also gracing the ceremony were HRH Raja Permaisuri Perak Tuanku Zara Salim, HH Raja Muda Perak Raja Jaafar Raja Muda Musa and HH Raja Puan Besar Raja Nazhatul Shima Sultan Idris Shah.

Also present were Prime Minister Dato' Seri Anwar Ibrahim and wife Datin Seri Dr. Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, Deputy Prime Minister Dato' Seri Dr. Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, Perak Menteri Besar Dato' Seri Saarani Mohamad, State Secretary Dato' Ahmad Suaidi Abdul Rahim, State Legal Adviser Dato' Azmir Shah Zainal Abidin, State Financial Officer Mohd Zaki Mahyudin, State Exco Members, Members of Parliament and Perak State Assemblymen.

His Royal Highness said the throne must also set an example in fulfilling God's trust, and in fulfilling the people's expectations, so that the sanctity of the throne is not tarnished and the King's sovereignty is not ridiculed.

"Offer the right advice sincerely, honestly and responsibly to the Ruler. The Ruler must not be lulled with stories that sound nice until he is in his own world, far from the reality of the hardships experienced by the people.

"The Ruler must understand the heartbeat and pulse of the people, a heavy responsibility can be lightened with the spirit of giving advice, helping each other and preserving the good name and sanctity of the throne," he added.

Earlier, HRH Sultan Nazrin inspected a Grand Guard of Honour mounted three officers and 103 members of the Royal Engineer Soldier Regiment Division 2 based in Camp Sangro, Taiping.

The Grand Guard of Honour was accompanied by the KD Pelanduk Brassband based at the Lumut Royal Malaysian Naval Base.
