LENGGONG, 12 March 2023 - Every athlete in Perak should have a deep interest, drive, determination and dedication to pursue success.

Perak Menteri Besar Dato' Seri Saarani Mohamad said this when officiating the Closing Ceremony of the Kombat Sports Carnival (Muay Thai Sports) 2023 organised by the State Sports Council at Dewan Merdeka this afternoon.

"I always tell young people and athletes, the first characteristic we need to have to achieve success is a deep interest. If you're not interested, it's hard to force yourself to enter the ring.

"Then, due to interest, we will try to seek knowledge. Look for a coach or teacher who will train us to become disciplined people to achieve our goals.

"The second are determination, drive and dedication. When we have a purpose and destination, that is what will fuel our spirit to keep getting up and not give up," he said.

He added that the state government will always be committed to training the talents of young people so that sports in Perak can be used as benchmark.

"Just now, we saw the action of the Muay Thai athletes who will represent the state in the Malaysian Games (SUKMA) as well as the athletes whose talents we are polishing.

"These athletes not only compete in Malaysia but also abroad such as Thailand and Cambodia.

"This proves their determination to maintain their performance and enhance the good name of our state in this sport," he said.

This Kombat Sports Carnival will last for two days from 11 to 12 March 2023 comprising 53 participants from 6 states, namely Melaka, Kuala Lumpur, Selangor, Kedah, Penang and Perak.

Also present were State Sports Council Director Mazlan Mohamad, Perak Menteri Besar’s Office Political Secretary Mohamad Hamidi Baharuddin, Gerik District Deputy Police Chief DSP Mohd Rahimi Zainol, State Youth and Sports Department Senior Assistant Director (Sports Development Division) Khairol Kamis and Perak Muay Thai President Bernard Radin.
