His Royal Highness also conferred the title of ‘Seniman Diraja’ on the country’s most famous cartoonist Lat, whose real name is Dato' Mohd Nor Khalid.

BATU GAJAH, 8 July 2023 – HRH Sultan of Perak Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah graced the opening of Rumah Lat Gallery in Jalan Bemban, Batu Gajah.

Accompanying the Sultan was HRH Raja Permaisuri Perak Tuanku Zara Salim.

Also present were Orang Kaya Bendahara Seri Maharaja Jeneral Dato' Seri Diraja Tan Sri Dr Mohd Zahidi Zainuddin and wife Toh Puan Datin Seri Diraja Puan Sri Hajah Rasiah Mohd Nor, State Secretary Dato' Ahmad Suaidi Abdul Rahim who is also Perak State Museum Board of Directors Chairman and wife Datin Che Fauziah Ahmad, Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture  Deputy Secretary-General Datuk Mohd Zamri Mat Zain, Dato' Mohd Nor Khalid, better known as LAT and wife Datin Faezah Ahmad Zanzali and State Exco members.

The gallery, built on a land area of ​​0.0412 hectares, houses all the artworks produced by the country's famous cartoonist Datuk Mohd Nor Khalid or known as 'Datuk Lat' throughout his career since 1962.

Among those on display are Lat's paintings and writings as well as a replica of a traditional Perak wooden house that houses personal items, including his family’s collection.

Interestingly, the replica of the traditional wooden house was built based on the house in Datuk Lat's popular comic and animation 'Kampung Boy'.

His Royal Highness also conferred the title of ‘Seniman Diraja’ (Royal Artist) on the country’s most famous cartoonist Lat, whose real name is Dato' Mohd Nor Khalid.

Sultan Nazrin said the award was in recognition of the artist’s significant role and contributions in showcasing Malaysia’s talent on the international stage and bringing fame to the country.
