Dato' Seri Saarani Mohamad talking about the West Coast Expressway (WCE) that will further strengthen Perak's position as a popular tourist destination.

KUALA LUMPUR, 16 July 2023 - The Perak State Government through Tourism Perak Management Berhad and Perak State Secretariat Local Government Division held the Pre-Launch Ceremony of Visit Perak Year 2024 (TMP2024).

The launch was officiated by Perak Menteri Besar Dato' Seri Saarani Mohamad at NU Sentral this afternoon.

In his speech, he said the West Coast Expressway (WCE) will further strengthen Perak's position as a popular tourist destination.

"It's a 233-kilometer highway connecting Banting, Selangor to Taiping Selatan in Perak, which is in its final stages and expected to be fully completed by the end of this year.

"The WCE involves the last exit at Taiping Selatan, directly connected to the exit of the North South Expressway (PLUS) at Changkat Jering.

"Starting from Hutan Melintang, this highway will take tourists across Perak via several exits, i.e., Teluk Intan which is famous for its Leaning Tower, and Lekir and Sitiawan which is the entrance to Pangkor Island.

"The Changkat Chermin and Beruas exits will take tourists to explore the uniqueness of Perak Tengah district and trace the history of the old kingdom of Ganga Negara. This route will then take us to Trong and Taiping Selatan, the entrance to Taiping Heritage Town which is one of the main tourist attractions.

"Apart from the WCE, the commuter service from Bukit Mertajam and Padang Rengas will be extended to Ipoh from September 2023," he elaborated at the launch.

Tourism Perak Management Berhad also organised the Perak Travel Fair 2.0 for three days from 14 to 16 July 2023 from 10.00am to 9.00pm here.

A memorandum of understanding (MoU) session between the Malaysia Travel Agents Association (MATTA) Perak Branch and Thai Travel Agents Association (TTAA) was held to strengthen cooperation and tourist attraction.

Also present were State Secretary Dato' Ahmad Suaidi Abdul Rahim, State Legal Adviser Dato' Azmir Shah Zainal Abidin, State Financial Officer Mohd Zaki Mahyudin, State Tourism, Industry, Investment and Corridor Development Committee chairman Loh Sze Yee, Deputy Tourism Minister, Arts and Culture Khairul Firdaus Akbar Khan and Tourism Perak Chief Executive Officer Nurmalis Musa.
