IPOH, 9 August 2023 - The growth of the Indonesia-Malaysia-Thailand Triangle (IMT-GT) is expected to benefit Perak in making the Visit Perak Year 2024 a success.

Perak Menteri Besar Dato' Seri Saarani Mohamad said this is due to the position of Perak which borders Indonesia and Thailand.

"Through IMT-GT, we take the opportunity to promote Perak to our neighbours Indonesia and Thailand.

"In addition to promoting Malaysia, we are also able to promote Visit Perak Year 2024, held in tandem with the tourism campaign involving the IMT-GT zone," he said.

He said this after chairing the 6th IMT Subregional Green Council Meeting at Casuarina@Meru here.

Also present were State Secretary Dato' Ahmad Suaidi Abdul Rahim, Thai Government Delegation Head cum Haytai Mayor Lieutenant General Sakorn Thongmunee, Indonesian Delegation Head Ahmad, Ipoh Mayor Dato' Rumaizi Bahrin, IMT-GT Subregional Centre Director Firdaus Dahlan, Asian Development Bank (ADB) Lead Regional Cooperation Specialist Antonio Ressano.

Dato' Seri Saarani added that the meeting was a collaboration platform between the three countries in carrying out coordinated efforts for the sustainable management of natural resources.

"Besides the sustainable management of natural resources comprising forests, water and wildlife, this platform is also able to strengthen cooperation in the management and restoration of ecosystems in border areas.

"This is because these three countries are in the same area such as culture and way of working, and therefore sustainable management needs to be done through cooperation," he said.

In the evening, Dato' Seri Saarani attended the IMT-GT Gala Night at Casuarina@Meru to honour the delegates present.

Hopefully, the cooperation between the three countries on sustainable development can be successfully achieved and the conclusions and findings from the ongoing meeting will be announced at the Chief Minister and Governor Forum to be held on 27 September in Batam, Indonesia.
