IPOH, 18 August 2023 - The Islamic Tourism Center (ITC), an agency under the purview of the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture (MOTAC), has chosen Perak for the launch of the Islamic Tourism Month 2023 (ITM) from 21 August to 17 September 2023.

The launch was officiated by Perak Menteri Besar Dato' Seri Saarani Mohamad at Hotel Casuarina@Meru this afternoon.

"Perak is well-known for its rich history, culture and natural beauty. With the support of the state government and cooperation of the community, we have embarked on a journey to transform Perak into a premier Muslim-friendly destination in line with the Perak Sejahtera 2030 action plan.

"The Islamic Tourism Month 2023 is just the beginning of an exciting chapter, as we are looking forward to the major event, Visit Perak Year 2024", he said in his speech at the event.

Also present were MOTAC Deputy Minister Khairul Firdaus Akbar Khan, State Assembly Speaker Dato' Mohammad Zahir Abdul Khalid, State Legal Adviser Dato' Azmir Shah Zainal Abidin, State Tourism, Investment Industry and Corridor Development Committee Chairman Loh Sze Yee and ITC Director-General Nizran Noordin.

Meanwhile, Khairul Firdaus said MOTAC targets the arrival of 3.2 million Muslim tourists in the country throughout 2023. That number is 20 percent of the 16.1 million foreign tourists targeted for this year.

"This goal can be achieved if the players in the Muslim tourism industry play their respective roles collectively and holistically, in addition to the part played the Islamic Tourism Center (ITC)," he told reporters.
