TANJUNG MALIM, 23 August 2023 – HRH Sultan of Perak Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah graced the Signing Ceremony of the Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) between Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI) and Oxford Centre for Islamic Studies (OXCIS), United Kingdom this morning.

Accompanying the Sultan was HRH Raja Permaisuri Perak Tuanku Zara Salim, who is also the Chancellor of UPSI.

Their Royal Highnesses witnessed the MoA signing ceremony between UPSI, represented by UPSI Vice-Chancellor Prof Dato' Dr Md. Amin Md. Taff and UPSI Deputy Chief Registrar Helmi Zaifura Abdul Rahman, and OXCIS, UK, represented by OXCIS Director Dr. Farhan Ahmad Nizami and University of Oxford OXCIS Fellow Prof Dato' Dr Muhammad Afifi al-Akiti.

Also present were Perak Menteri Besar Dato' Seri Saarani Mohamad and wife Datin Seri Aezer Zubin, Orang Kaya Bendahara Seri Maharaja Jeneral Dato' Seri DiRaja Tan Sri (Dr.) Mohd. Zahidi Zainuddin (Bersara) and wife Toh Puan Datin Seri Diraja Puan Sri Hajah Rasiah Md. Nor, State Secretary Dato' Ahmad Suaidi Abdul Rahim and wife Datin Che Fauziah Ahmad, State Legal Adviser Dato' Azmir Shah Zainal Abidin and State Financial Officer Mohd Zaki Mahyudin and Uzbekistan State World Languages ​​University Deputy Vice-Rector for International Cooperation Dr Alisher Abidjanov.

Prof Dato' Dr Md. Amin Md. Taff said the ceremony marked the beginning of an extraordinary partnership between two institutions rich in heritage, tradition and academic excellence.

"The MoA is for UPSI and OXCIS to join forces to produce a 'Qari-in-Residence' initiative which will see selected students from the Tahfiz and Turath Islami programme be at OXCIS throughout the month of Ramadan starting in 2024.

"This programme gives our students the opportunity to be involved with the local community at OXCIS and in Oxfordshire via various community activities and knowledge transfer that will be an added value to the students; and even emphasises on internationalisation and empowering students in line with the objectives of the Ministry of Higher Education,” he said in his speech.
