IPOH, 30 August 2023 - More than 10,000 people thronged the Sultan Azlan Shah Roundabout in Meru for the Perak State Level National Day Eve Celebration 2023 as early as 8.00 pm.

Perak Menteri Besar Dato' Seri Saarani Mohamad and wife Datin Seri Aezer Zubin also attended the celebration at about 10.40 pm accompanied by State Secretary Dato' Ahmad Suaidi Abdul Rahim.

The celebration started with a song and dance performance by Kumpulan Kesenian Jabatan Kebudayaan dan Kesenian (JKKN) Perak, choir performance by SMJKC Sam Tet, dance performance by Sekolah Seni Malaysia Perak, and song performance by Mayanz Machans, Salindang Sari A/P Saliman and Liew Pi Yen.

The celebration was enlivened with the event’s highlight, i.e., the countdown and chants of “Merdeka” as well as fireworks display and flying of the Jalur Gemilang.

Dato' Seri Saarani said this year's National Day Eve celebration was brightened up with three other programmes held simultaneously, namely a cultural festival@Perak by JKKN Perak, Sambal Citarasa Festival by SWA TV and Sarong Festival by Kelab Sukan Olahraga Bagirun, which began on 30 August to 2 September 2023.

Also present were State Legal Adviser Dato' Azmir Shah Zainal Abidin, State Financial Officer Mohd Zaki Mahyudin, State Tourism, Investment Industry and Corridor Development Committee Chairman Loh Sze Yee and Tourism Perak Chief Executive Officer Nurmalis Musa.

Earlier, 800 participants took part in Kayuhan Merdeka 2023 at the Persiaran Bandaraya Ipoh grounds.

The cycling flag-off was performed by State Housing and Local Government Committee Chairman Sandrea Ng Shy Ching, representing the Perak Menteri Besar.
