SUNGAI SIPUT, 30 September 2023 – HRH Sultan of Perak Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah officiated the opening of Perak Agrofest 2023 at Ladang Infoternak here today.

His Royal Highness’ arrival was welcomed by Perak Menteri Besar Dato' Seri Saarani Mohamad.

Also present were HH Tunku Dato' Seri Kamel Tunku Rijaluddin, State Secretary Dato' Ahmad Suaidi Abdul Rahim, State Financial Officer Mohd Zaki Mahyudin, State Exco Members and heads of departments and agencies.

Dato' Seri Saarani in his speech said that the state government has redoubled its efforts and endeavours so that all initiatives to strengthen food security as conceived in the Perak Sejahtera 2030 plan can be realised, especially through the collaboration of agencies and departments related to the agriculture sector to generate large-scale food production.

He said for the agriculture sector, Perak's Self-Sufficiency Ratio (SSR) in 2022 for 13 selected types of crops was sufficient and met domestic demand with SSR values ​​exceeding 100%.

"For the fisheries sector, Perak is the leader in Malaysia with the highest amount of production for aquaculture and capture fisheries, recording a Self Sufficiency Level of 98.31% in 2022.

"As for the livestock sector last year, the poultry commodity has exceeded the SSR value of 100%, namely chicken and duck meat and eggs," he said.

At the programme, Sultan Nazrin presented 15 awards to the winners of the various competitions held in conjunction with Perak Agrofest 2023.

Before departing, the Sultan also took the time to visit the booths set up by the departments and agencies.

Meanwhile, Perak Agrofest is the rebranding of the State Farmers, Breeders and Fishermen Day Celebration.

With the theme of "Sustainable Agro, Prosperous Perak", the three-day Perak Agrofest 2023 from 29 September to 1 October 2023, is a strategic platform created for farmers, breeders and fishermen to obtain the latest information and exposure in the fields of agriculture, fisheries, animal husbandry and agro-based industries.
