JMG was announced as the winner of the AIMB.

IPOH, 1 November 2023 - The Minerals and Geoscience Department Malaysia (JMG) created a surprise when its innovation project was announced as the winner of the Menteri Besar Innovation Award (AIMB).

The group named EUREKA took home cash RM50,000 and a trophy.

The presentation of awards was officiated by Perak Menteri Besar Dato' Seri Saarani Mohamad during the Perak State Level Innovation Day Celebration 2023 at the State Secretariat Banquet Hall.

Also present were State Secretary Dato' Ahmad Suaidi Abdul Rahim, State Legal Adviser Dato' Azmir Shah Zainal Abidin, State Financial Officer Zaki Mahyudin and State Science, Environment and Green Technology Committee Chairman Teh Kok Lim.

The EUREKA Group presented the green earth sustainable technology innovation project via the recycling of lime carbide waste to produce precipitated calcium carbonate (PCC) as a filler in commercial paint production.

The innovation is a technique to convert industrial waste acetylene gas, i.e. lime carbide, into high-grade synthetic limestone. This PCC can be used in various industries, such as paint, paper, plastics, coatings and so on. Through innovation, industrial waste has been upcycled into reusable minerals, and ensuring environmental sustainability.

Also, a seminar was held during the celebration at 9.30 am at the Perak State Secretariat Multipurpose Hall.

The seminar started with a briefing on Intellectual Property Protection by Intellectual Property Officer Siti Mariam Solehan, the Formality Inspection Unit Head (National) of Malaysian Intellectual Property Corporation (MyIPO).

After that, State Secretariat Information Management Division Principal Assistant State Secretary Zolkefli Mohd Idris gave a briefing on “ePenghulu System, Bringing the Penghulu’s Office to the Community”.

The celebration was also enlivened with an exhibition by 30 departments featuring various innovations that had been produced and implemented by the participants.
