The fruits and vegetables on sale at FAMA Fest @ Perak 2024.

GOPENG, 29 February 2024 - FAMA Fest @ Perak 2024 is targeting sales of RM2 million with an attendance of 110,000 visitors throughout the five-day programme, starting today.

Agriculture and Food Security Deputy Minister Datuk Arthur Joseph Kurup said from the excitement and content of the programme organised by FAMA specifically for the visitors, he believed that the target set could be achieved.

"I believe that the target set for this state, sales of RM2 million and 110 thousand visitors can be achieved and benefit the 131 entrepreneurs of FAMA Fest @ Perak 2024.

"It is my great hope that via this programme at RTC Perak, consumers can get products based on agriculture and agro-based industry at reasonable prices, and catalyse spending that can stimulate the local economy," he said.

He said this in his speech at the Opening Ceremony of FAMA Fest @ Perak 2024 at the Gopeng Rural Transformation Centre (RTC) here.

Also present were State Rural Development, Plantation, Agriculture and Food Industry Committee chairman Dato' Mohd Zolkafly Harun; State Women, Family, Social Welfare, Entrepreneurs and Cooperatives Development Committee chairman Dato' Salbiah Mohamed; State Housing and Local Government Committee chairman Sandrea Ng Shy Ching; State Agriculture Director Norsiyenti Othman; Federal Agricultural Marketing Authority (FAMA) Director-General Abdul Rashid Bahri and heads of departments and agencies.

Datuk Arthur Joseph added that the programme could open up opportunities for local entrepreneurs to export their products to the international market via two overseas market openings which are expected to generate sales of RM1.8 million, thus making FAMA Fest a platform to promote foreign trade.

"Entrepreneurs and producers of agricultural products and agro-based food industry can use this platform to market their products, besides being able to promote and introduce their products more extensively.

"Hopefully, the people are able to obtain information about the services provided by the government more clearly, and their awareness of government activities and policies beneficial to the people will be increased," he said.

The Fruit, Flower & Food Fiesta programme or FAMA Fest is an annual event organised by FAMA starting in 2017. This year’s FAMA Fest @ Perak 2024 at RTC Gopeng is the kick-off before it continues to Sarawak, Pahang, Kelantan, Negeri Sembilan, Selangor, Kuala Lumpur and Sabah.
