The project, on a 90-hectare site, will be developed in three phases and is expected to be completed by the end of 2025.
LUMUT, 4 March 2024 - The construction of the Lumut Maritime Terminal 2 (LMT 2) project is in line with Lumut Port's main objective of becoming the leading Bulk Cargo Terminal Operator in Southeast Asia.
Perak Menteri Besar Dato' Seri Saarani Mohamad said this when officiating the Groundbreaking Ceremony of Lumut Maritime Terminal 2 at the LMT 2 compound, Batu Undan, Segari.
"Lumut Port has launched a 10-year strategic business plan, involving an expenditure of RM362 million for 2016-2026.
"Of that amount, RM282 million or about 78% of the purchase cost is allocated for developing LMT 2," he said.
He added that the project, on a 90-hectare site, will be developed in three phases and is expected to be completed by the end of 2025.
"The first phase involves land acquisition and site preparation works, while the second phase focuses on dredging and construction of onshore and marine infrastructure.
"The third phase focuses on the terminal development with appropriate handling facilities and operating equipment. The entire development cost will also be fully funded by Lumut Port," he said.
Also present were State Secretary Dato' Ahmad Suaidi Abdul Rahim, State Legal Adviser Dato' Azmir Shah Zainal Abidin, State Financial Officer Dato' Mohd Zaki Mahyudin, Perak State Development Corporation (PKNPk) Chief Executive Datuk Redza Rafiq Abdul Razak, Lumut Maritime Terminal chairman Dato' Azian Osman and Lumut Maritime Terminal CEO Dato' Mubarak Ali Gulam Rasul.
Dato' Seri Saarani said the project is expected to create more than 500 job opportunities, as well as developing a network of supplier and business operations in the maritime sector.
"The development of LMT 2 is also expected to increase operational efficiency and capacity in the handling of bulk minerals to meet the high global demand, besides providing support to the development of the downstream industry," he said.
