IPOH, 4 May 2024 - The World Firefighters Day 2024 celebration (SHAB 2024) officiated by Prime Minister Dato' Seri Anwar Ibrahim at Jalan Tambun, Sunway City in Ulu Kinta this morning was lively and joyous.

His arrival was greeted by Perak Menteri Besar Dato' Seri Saarani Mohamad and Housing and Local Government Minister Nga Kor Ming. He then received the Prime Minister's salute and inspected the Firefighter Guard of Honour comprising 2 officers and 99 personnel of other ranks.

The Firefighter Guard of Honour was led by Senior Fire Superintendent II Mohamad Firdaus Khan Anwat Khan, accompanied by the JBPM Band led by Senior Assistant Fire Superintendent Ahmad Najabah Zuel.

The World Firefighters’ Day, celebrated on 4 May every year, is a symbolic event to commemorate and appreciate the sacrifices and services rendered by firefighters worldwide.

The theme of this year's celebration, "Bomba Tonggak Penyelamat Negara" was chosen again to symbolise the commitment and dedication of the Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM), which has always been the front line and main pillar of the country to ensure the wellbeing and safety of all Malaysians.

The ceremony continued with a doa by JBPM Religious Affairs and Welfare Officer Fire Superintendent Luqman Ramli, followed by the recitation of the Wira Merah pledge led by JBPM Kuala Lumpur Deputy Director Assistant Fire Commissioner Rozihan Anwar Mamat.

The celebration was interspersed with the recitation of a poem "Wira Merah Setia Menjungjung Amanah" by JBPM Sabah Fire Officer Mohd Fauzi Jamikah, about the Wira Merah with their endless good deeds and sacrifices.

The event included five ‘Smoke Jumper JBPM’ paratroopers who parachuted from 4,000 feet, and after landing safely handed over the symbolic axe to the Prime Minster, who then placed it in a special slot to launch SHAB 2024, accompanied by JBPM Director-General Dato' Nor Hisham Mohammad.

Dato' Seri Anwar was then presented with a portrait, a memory from 1997, depicting him during the successful mission to extinguish cross-border wildfire (Ops Jerebu), involving 1,200 personnel and took 25 days. The portrait was presented to him as a memory of his time with the fire brigade.

SHAB 2024 also recorded the department's history by collaborating with Pos Malaysia to launch commemorative stamps featuring JBPM's air, land and water assets, specially issued in conjunction with this year's celebration.

The celebration continued with a firework display by the JBPM Special Forces, followed by a parade of 29 contingents and 57 vehicles comprising a total of 1,400 personnel.

Also present were Housing and Local Government Deputy Minister Datuk Aiman Athirah Sabu, Housing and Local Government Ministry Secretary-General Datuk Wira M Noor Azman Taib, State Secretary Dato' Ahmad Suaidi Abdul Rahim, State Financial Officer Dato' Mohd Zaki Mahyudin and State Exco Members.
