BATU GAJAH, 9 May 2024 - Perak is the preferred location for Smart Asia Chemical Bhd to open its second factory, Smart Paint Manufacturing Sdn. Bhd. in the Bemban Industrial area here.

The opening ceremony was officiated by Perak Menteri Besar Dato' Seri Saarani Mohamad.

According to him, the company's first factory was in Johor but uses mineral resources from Perak for the production of water-based decorative paints and protective coatings for home and industrial use.

"Congratulations to InvestPerak and Smart Asia via its subsidiary, Smart Paint Manufacturing Sdn Bhd, for successfully signing an agreement that led to the construction of this factory.

"The agreement signed certainly provides a win-win situation as the company can save the operating cost of sourcing raw materials in the paint manufacturing industry, while Perak can further strengthen the mineral sector which is one of the drivers of the state's economic growth," he said.

He added that the development involved an estimated total investment of RM100 million with the latest technology and industry 4.0 automation system, in line with the company's commitment and determination towards the advancement of innovation and current technology to increase efficiency and productivity.

"This effort is in alignment with the state's development plan agenda, Perak Sejahtera 2030, and Pelan Perindustrian Perak (P3) spearheaded by InvestPerak. The P3 will further boost economic growth and performance of the state's industrial sector for 10 years from 2021 to 2030. 

"Besides that, the opening of this factory will create spillover effects on small traders and open up job opportunities for locals nearby. 

"About 200 new job opportunities have been successfully created from the opening of this factory which will benefit the local residents around Batu Gajah and Seri Iskandar," he added. 

Also present were State Financial Officer Dato' Mohd Zaki Mahyudin, State Tourism, Industry, Investment and Corridor Development Committee Chairman Loh Sze Yee, InvestPerak CEO Mohamad Hashim Abdul Ghani, Smart Asia Chemical Bhd Non-Independent Executive Director and Managing Director Goh Chye Hin, and Smart Asia Chemical Bhd Non-Independent Executive Director and Chief Operating Officer Lim Kok Beng. 

Lim Kok Beng said the new facility, covering ​​95,170 sq. ft, has been meticulously designed to optimise production processes and increase operational efficiency. 

"With the expanded manufacturing space, Smart Asia anticipates a 27 million-litre increase in annual production capacity for decorative paints and protective coatings," he said.
