LENGGONG, 20 May 2024 - The state government is committed to developing the agrotourism industry holistically and sustainably to generate more job opportunities, create new enterprises and improve the socioeconomic status of the people.
Perak Menteri Besar Dato' Seri Saarani Mohamad said this when officiating the Perak Agrotourism Carnival 2024 (PAC 2024) at Tasik Raban Resort here.
"The elements of nature, heritage, culture, agriculture and livestock breeding are enough to highlight Lenggong's reputation as one of the world-class agrotourism destinations.
"Although only a small district, Lenggong offers the world historical heritage, geological treasures and diverse agricultural activities. From the prehistoric caves that hold ancient life secrets to Perak’s largest deer farm offering a unique agrotourism experience, Lenggong is definitely a must-visit destination," he said.
Also present were Home Affairs Deputy Minister Datuk Seri Dr. Shamsul Anuar Nasarah, State Legal Adviser Dato' Azmir Shah Zainal Abidin, State Financial Officer Dato' Mohd Zaki Mahyudin, State Agriculture Development Corporation CEO Dato' Yahanis Yahya and State Agriculture Director Norsiyenti Othman.
Dato' Yahanis Yahya said Perak SADC aims to contribute RM6 million to the state's income in the agrotourism industry through the inaugural Perak Agrotourism Carnival 2024 (PAC 2024).
"We are targeting an increase of RM6 million to the state's agrotourism industry. The organisation of PAC 2024 will have a positive impact on Perak’s economic growth. Starting from the organisation of this carnival, the economic spillover will generate continuous benefits for the Lenggong district in particular and Perak in general.
"With continued implementation, such events can attract more tourists from home and abroad, increase the potential of agriculture and tourism in the area, as well as open up new opportunities for local entrepreneurs and economic contributors.
“Initiatives like this can also promote the sustainability of nature and local culture, which are important aspects in the development of a responsible tourism industry," he said at the carnival.
PAC 2024 was held from 17 – 19 May with an attendance of over 20,000 visitors.
The carnival, involving the participation of more than 100 entrepreneurs and operators from throughout the state, contained various activities such as agrotourism exhibition, dragon boat race and entrepreneurship forum.
It also offered discounts of up to 70 percent for 50 attractive packages based on agrotourism products.
