IPOH, 1 August 2024 – Perak Menteri Besar Dato' Seri Saarani Mohamad officiated the groundbreaking ceremony of Sunway Ipoh Mall at Sunway Onsen here.

The groundbreaking ceremony was the beginning towards realising the construction of the largest shopping centre in Perak by 2027.

With an overall development cost exceeding RM1 billion, the mall in Sunway City Ipoh will span over one million square feet of net lettable area (NLA) covering four retail floors.

The mall will also have Perak's first ice-skating rink, an exhibition centre, a 36-lane bowling centre, a multipurpose sports centre and a 10-hall cinema with a seating capacity of approximately 1,500.

In his speech, Dato' Seri Saarani Mohamad said he recognised the importance of such public-private partnerships in driving economic and social development.

"My main goal is to elevate Ipoh as an international metropolis and restore Perak's position as one of the most economically advanced states in Malaysia.

"Besides, the Perak State Government is also proud and fully supports this transformative project that will redefine the landscape here," he said.

Also present were State Secretary Dato' Ahmad Suaidi Abdul Rahim, State Tourism, Industry, Investment and Corridor Development Committee Chairman Loh Sze Yee, Ipoh Mayor Dato' Rumaizi Baharin, Perak State Development Corporation (PKNPk) Chief Executive Officer, Hulu Kinta State Assemblyman Muhammad Arafat Varisai Mahamad and Sunway Group Founder and Chairman Tan Sri Dato' Seri Sir Dr. Jeffrey Cheah.
