IPOH, 5 August 2024 - The Perak State Higher Education Loan, introduced since 1973, is an initiative of the Perak State Government to promote education. As of now, it is estimated that over 14,000 students have benefited.

State Education, Higher Education, Youth and Sports Committee chairman Khairudin Abu Hanipah said the Perak Higher Education Loan is an important initiative of the state government in ensuring that children, regardless of their family background, have access to education.

"It is one of the initiatives in providing financial assistance facilities in the form of interest-free loans to Malaysian citizens, especially Perakians who are qualified to continue their studies from Diploma to PHD.

"Alhamdulillah, through this initiative it can help to some extent to ease the financial burden of parents and students in paying tuition fees, college fees and covering the cost of living while studying at IPTs," he said.

He said this at the Certificate Presentation Ceremony for Excellent Students and JomPAY Contest Winners & Win Perak State Higher Education Loans at the Level G Foyer, Bangunan Perak Darul Ridzuan here.

Also present were State Deputy Secretary (Management) Dato' Nor Sham Rahman, State Education Department Director Dato' Mohamad Fauzi Mahson, Board of Trustees members of the Higher Education Scholarship Fund for Malay and Non-Malay Perakians, as well as state and federal department heads.

He added that at the beginning of 2000, the state government introduced the Convertible Loan for the Exemption of Loan Repayment for the Bachelor’s Degree.

"It is a form of gift or reward to encourage and as an injection of enthusiasm to the students to try harder and always give their best to achieve academic excellence.

"The loan repayment exemption is for Bachelor's Degree loan recipients with a First-Class Degree with a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 3.75 and above or equivalent, and the application is submitted to the secretariat within 12 months from the date of convocation," he said.

Meanwhile, Khairudin also presented Excellent Student Award Certificates to 31 recipients and 10 JomPay lucky draw prizes.

The JomPAY & Win Perak Higher Education Loan contest was organised by the state government in collaboration with AMBANK with the aim of promoting loan repayment methods via the JomPAY service.
