IPOH, 8 August 2024 - HRH Raja Permaisuri of Perak Tuanku Zara Salim graced the Launch Ceremony of the National Cancer Society of Malaysia (NCSM)-CARITAS Home of Hope and the Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) Roadshow Programme with HRH Raja Permaisuri Perak in Kampung Simee.

According to NCSM's managing director Dr. Murallitharan Munisamy, since last February, NCSM has successfully helped more than 70,000 Malaysians get HPV protection.

"NCSM in collaboration with volunteers, state governments and other organisations have reached various rural areas in Perak, Johor, Kedah, Kelantan, Pahang, Negeri Sembilan, Melaka, Kuala Lumpur, Selangor, Penang and Sarawak to help women receive HPV immunisation to prevent cervical cancer.

"NCSM has also successfully helped 27,500 underprivileged women in peninsular Malaysia via the Launch of the Etiqa Free Mammogram Programme - Phase 6 with NCSM," he said.

He added that the NCSM-CARITAS Home of Hope launched today is a temporary lodging for poor cancer patients.

"Since operating in 2023, NCSM Perak Home of Hope has provided facilities for cancer patients and their family members to stay for free and comfortably while receiving treatment at Hospital Raja Permaisuri Bainun (HRPB).

"Among the other services are transportation, psychology counselling and nutrition services for both adult and child patients," he said in his speech.

Also present were Perak Menteri Besar’s wife Datin Aezer Zubin, State Assembly Speaker’s wife Datin Aznee Abu Samah, State Secretary’s wife Datin Che Fuziah Ahmad, State Women, Family, Social Welfare, Entrepreneur and Cooperatives Development Committee chairman Dato' Salbiah Mohamed, Kinta Territorial Chief Dato' Abdul Wahab Azizul Hassan, Perak Health Department director Dr Feisul Idzwan Mustapha, NCSM President Dato' Dr. Saunthari Somasundaram and The Titular Roman Catholic Bishop of Penang Cardinal Dato' Seri Sebastian Francis.

After the programme, Her Royal Highness mingled with students of the Health Ministry Training Institute (ILKKM).
