KUALA KANGSAR, 9 November 2024 - HRH Sultan of Perak Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah said, besides the sensationalised issues of religion and race, there are increasingly voices that openly mocked the royal institution.
Sultan Nazrin said a Ruler’s role, beyond fulfilling constitutional responsibilities, was vital in bridging tradition with modernisation, enlivening the nation’s rich history and civilisational legacy.
“A civilisation, shaped through respectful cultural practices, refined character and the beauty of language, forms the foundation for building a disciplined, advanced, modern and progressive nation.
"This role is exceedingly relevant, and increasingly more so as our society faces various forms of cultural subversion and sabotage," said the Sultan.
His Royal Highness said this at the Pledge of Loyalty and Investiture Ceremony in conjunction with his 68th Birthday Celebration at Balairung Seri, Istana Iskandariah here.
Sultan Nazrin added that recently, the acts of disregarding manners and rejecting tradition, often led by those ignorant of their country’s history, shallow in their understanding of their own civilisation, those with a refugee mindset, a mindset with no cultural roots, thus violating decorum and abandoning tradition.
"The civilisation that has been built is too precious to be allowed to be destroyed by the actions of individuals and organisations that have a tenuous grasp of tradition and a hollow understanding of decorum; their cleverness cannot be followed, nor can their ignorance be taught, but they possess a great desire to introduce new order, voicing and behaving inappropriately, promoting actions and behaviour that clearly contradict the decorum and refinement of our customs.
"The people need to be made aware to reject cultural encroachment and totally rebuff words and deeds that violate the boundaries of decorum and custom. The people must not be allowed to be uncivilised, devoid of manners and customs" he said.
