IPOH, 22 January 2025 – The Perak State Government remains committed to achieving its food security agenda through various initiatives to meet current needs and build a strong foundation for the future.
Perak Menteri Besar Dato' Seri Saarani Mohamad said this when officiating the Perak Food Security Aspiration Ceremony 2025 at Dewan Bankuet, Bangunan Perak Darul Ridzuan.
"Various measures have been taken, including introducing innovations in food supply management, reducing waste of resources and ensuring that the people have access to fresh, nutritious and adequate food.
"Initiatives such as the use of modern technology, prudent resource management and the adoption of sustainable agricultural practices play an important role in addressing global challenges.
"With a population of 2.5 million people, this effort focuses on large-scale food production, adoption of smart technology in the agricultural sector, and the empowerment of a skilled workforce. This is a strategic step by the state to ensure that this sector continues to grow more dynamically and sustainably," he said.
He added that smart agriculture courses have been introduced to help farmers understand the use of modern technology such as drones, smart irrigation systems, and automation in planting.
"All these initiatives reflect the State Government's determination in strengthening the agriculture sector as the main pillar of food security, thereby contributing to the well-being of the people and the state’s economic development," he said.
Meanwhile, the ceremony also celebrated the commitment and strong cooperation from the committee and staff of the Malaysia Agriculture, Horticulture and Agrotourism Exhibition (MAHA) 2024 which won the Anugerah Pavilion/ Laman Idol MAHA Award 2024 and took home RM20,000 in cash, thus maintaining the champion title for 6 consecutive times.
Also present were State Financial Officer Dato' Mohd Zaki Mahyudin, State Rural Development, Plantation, Agriculture and Food Industry Committee Chairman Dato' Mohd Zolkafly Harun, State Exco Members, Deputy State Secretary (Development) Halizah Sipun, state and federal department heads, as well as chief executive officers of government-linked companies (GLCs) in Perak.
