IPOH, 25 April 2025 – The Sultan Azlan Shah Airport (LTSAS) Improvement and Upgrading Project was an initiative that aimed to ensure the comfort and convenience of users in the future.

Prime Minister Dato' Seri Anwar Ibrahim said the RM8 million project was an initiative of Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad (MAHB) to provide conducive infrastructure, while also increasing passenger capacity to meet future projected demands.

"I emphasise that every project and programme for the people will only succeed if supported by synergy and cohesive cooperation from the Federal Government, ministries, agencies, State Government, private sector and all levels of community leadership.

"Just like with LTSAS, strategic collaboration is crucial, not only in national development, but also in driving the tourism sector," he said when speaking at the LTSAS Improvement and Upgrading Project Opening Ceremony here.

Also present were Perak Menteri Besar Dato' Seri Saarani Mohamad, Transport Minister Loke Siew Fook, Housing and Local Government Minister Nga Kor Ming, Dato' Jana Santhiran a/l Muniayan, State Secretary Dato' Ahmad Suaidi Abdul Rahim, State Exco Members, MAHB Managing Director Datuk Mohd Izani Ghani, and heads of state and federal departments.

Dato' Seri Anwar added that this strategic collaboration can also help reduce the pressure on government funds through the participation of stakeholders.

"As a result of this consensus, we are able to build domestic resilience and strengthen public confidence that we can be self-reliant and progress with our own strength and regional networks, particularly in ASEAN, China, India, Australia, Japan and Korea, while also opening new markets in Europe and Latin America.

"I would also like to remind that to compete at the international level, we must provide high-quality facilities and infrastructure, driven by the efficiency and integrity of all civil servants," he elaborated.

Among the key improvements at LTSAS were the expansion of terminal space by over 10% to 3,257 sq m, thus increasing the peak-hour passenger handling capacity from 240 to 510 passengers per hour; and the enlargement of the holding lounge from 71 sq m to 270 sq m.

In addition, the installation of new seating capable of accommodating up to 80% of demand also contributed to the creation of a more spacious, comfortable and efficient environment, enabling the airport to handle three times the number of passengers during peak hours.
