Perak Strengthens EV Infrastructure, Targets 500 Locations.

Dato' Seri Saarani Mohamad’s arrival being welcomed by guests.
IPOH, 2 May 2025 – The Perak State Government is strengthening its steps towards green mobility through a strategic collaboration with Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) and Casuarina Meru Sdn. Bhd. to expand the installation of electric vehicle (EV) charging facilities throughout the state.
Perak Menteri Besar Dato' Seri Saarani Mohamad was present to witness the signing of partnership at the Agreement Document Exchange Ceremony at Hotel Casuarina@Meru.
This initiative is seen as an important start in making Perak a hub for clean technology investment destination and eco-friendly tourism, in line with the aspirations of Perak Sejahtera 2030.
Through this agreement, TNB is installing one 120kW DC fast charger with dual nozzles (CCS2) and two 22kW AC chargers at the main parking area of Hotel Casuarina@Meru, equipped with a digital payment system and 24-hour access for the convenience of EV users.
This effort also supports the state's target to provide 500 EV charging points by the end of 2025, in line with the national target of 10,000 chargers nationwide.
"To date, 149 charging points have been installed at 56 locations across Perak, including urban areas, highways and main tourist destinations.
"This means that we have achieved 29% of the state's target, and efforts will continue to be intensified," said Dato' Seri Saarani Mohamad.
The State Government is also paying attention to the needs of tourists and rural residents, especially in anticipation of Visit Malaysia Year 2026.
TNB Chief Executive Officer Datuk Ir. Megat Jalaluddin Megat Hassan said at least 10 more locations owned by the Perak State Development Corporation (PKNP) are being assessed for the next phase of development.
"TNB, through its subsidiaries, has taken a two-pronged approach in the country's EV ecosystem – as both electricity supplier and charge point operator.
"TNB currently operates more than 80 Electron charging stations nationwide, including strategic locations such as Tapah and Gunung Semanggol R&Rs, as well as several AEON branches in Perak.
"Besides developing EV chargers, TNB also supports the use of renewable energy (RE) via its subsidiary GSPARX, which has installed a solar PV system at Masjid Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah, Tapah, saving up to RM4,000 per year and reducing carbon emissions by 25 metric tonnes of CO₂eq – equivalent to the greenhouse gas absorbed by more than 400 saplings over 10 years.
"Seven more mosques in Perak are expected to have solar installations completed soon, as part of the target to equip 38 mosques in this phase.
"TNB is also in the process of developing hybrid hydro floating solar projects at three major dams – Chenderoh, Temenggor and Kenyir – as another strategic step towards net zero carbon emissions by 2050," he elaborated.
Dato' Seri Saarani Mohamad said this collaboration is the best example of public-private sector synergy in boosting Perak to be a developed state that is responsive to climate change challenges and future economic needs.
"The State Government will continue to act as a facilitator for sustainable investments, clean technology, youth capacity building in Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), and green innovation.
"We want Perak to be known not only as an eco-friendly investment destination, but also as an exemplary state in balancing economic development and environmental conservation," he stated.
Also present were State Secretary Dato' Ahmad Suaidi Abdul Rahim, State Financial Officer Dato' Mohd Zaki Mahyudin, State Science, Environment and Green Technology Committee Chairman Teh Kok Lim, and PKNP Group Deputy Chief Executive (Planning and Development) Syed Omar Albar Syed Abdullah.
