PUTRAJAYA, 27 May 2025 - Malaysia made history today by hosting the ASEAN Auditor Conference 2025 for the first time, coinciding with Malaysia's ASEAN Chairmanship 2025 and the appointment of Auditor-General Dato’ Seri Wan Suraya Wan Mohd Radzi as Chair of the ASEAN Audit Committee.

Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar said this was a major achievement in the collective effort to strengthen governance throughout ASEAN. He said it was not merely symbolic but a sign of shared commitment to improving governance in all sectors of society.

The theme “Inclusive and Sustainable Auditing for a Progressive ASEAN” is very apt as it outlines a collective vision to promote auditing practices that are not only strong and future-ready, but also inclusive and have a sustainable impact.

"Additionally, the conference held concurrently with the ASEAN Summit in Kuala Lumpur reflects ASEAN's maturity as a region that is not only committed to shared prosperity but also shouldering shared responsibilities," he said.

His speech was read by Dato’ Seri Wan Suraya Wan Mohd Radzi during the ASEAN Auditor Conference 2025 Launch Ceremony at the Putrajaya International Convention Centre (PICC) here.

Also present were JPM Senior Deputy Chief Secretary Datuk Abd Shukor Mahmood, ASEAN Secretary-General H.E. Dr. Kao Kim Hourn, Perak State Secretary Dato’ Ahmad Suaidi Abdul Rahim, Perak State Financial Officer Dato’ Mohd Zaki Mahyudin, representatives of ASEAN delegations, and heads of state and federal departments.

The ceremony also featured a High-Level Dialogue Session with the discussion topic "Enhancing Public Sector Auditing Through Follow-Up Audit," comprising panellists Dato’ Seri Wan Suraya Wan Mohd Radzi, Philippines Audit Commission Chairman H.E. Gamaliel Asis Cordoba, and Indonesia Audit Board Director-General VII Pranoto.

The discussion focussed on sharing each country’s experiences in conducting follow-up audits and the importance of this initiative in driving policy reforms and enhancing public trust.

The two-day conference at PICC gathered 2,243 participants from the public and private sectors, including representatives from Supreme Audit Institutions (SAIs) of ASEAN countries, as well as international partners, such as Brunei, the Philippines, Cambodia, Laos, Maldives, and Yemen.

Additionally, the conference was also supported by various strategic partners, including professional bodies and global audit firms, such as Malaysian Institute of Accountants (MIA),  Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA), Malaysian Institute of Certified Public Accountants (MICPA), Institute of Internal Auditors Malaysia (IIAM), Deloitte, Ernst & Young (EY), Klynveld Peat Marwick Goerdeler (KPMG), and PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC).
