Perak Hosts UM-NUS Tunku Chancellor Golf Tournament, Strengthening Perak–Singapore Relations.

IPOH, 26 August 2025 – After more than a decade, the University of Malaya (UM) – National University of Singapore (NUS) Tunku Chancellor Golf Tournament was once again held in Perak, maintaining the tradition of friendship and sportsmanship that has been established for over five decades between these two prestigious universities.
HRH Sultan of Perak, Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah, as Chancellor of UM, presented the tournament trophy to the overall champion of the 54th edition, UM.
His Royal Highness was accompanied by Singapore President H.E. Tharman Shanmugaratnam, as Chancellor of NUS.
The 54th UM–NUS Tunku Chancellor Golf Tournament Prize Giving Ceremony was held at the Royal Perak Golf Club (RPGC).
Also present were Singapore High Commissioner to Malaysia H.E. Vanu Gopala Menon, UM Vice-Chancellor Professor Dato' Seri Dr. Noor Azuan Abu Osman, NUS President Professor Tan Eng Chye, Perak State Senate Member Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Mohd. Annuar Zaini and representatives from UM and NUS.
Professor Dato’ Seri Dr. Noor Azuan Abu Osman said the golf tournament which brought together 54 players from UM and 54 players from NUS, was not just an annual sporting event but a symbol of brotherhood over five decades.
He added that the spirit of friendship and cooperation displayed throughout the tournament was a symbol of the strong relationship between the two institutions since their establishment.
The historical dimension was evident when the Sultan's father, Almarhum Sultan Azlan Muhibbuddin Shah Ibni Almarhum Sultan Yussuff Izzuddin Shah Ghafarullahu-lah, held the position of Chancellor of UM from 1986 to 2014. His Royal Highness has since continued the legacy as Chancellor of UM.
Alongside the golf tournament, UM and NUS also held the UM–NUS Joint Academic Symposium 2025 themed “Precision Health” at RPGC.
The symposium brought together medical experts and researchers from both universities to discuss the latest developments in drug discovery, genetic biomarkers, clinical artificial intelligence applications and precision medicine practices.
The symposium featured 10 keynote lectures and technical talks by experts from UM and NUS, including Prof. Dr. Lim Lee-Ling from UM who discussed the use of data in tackling diabetes and Prof. Dr. Tai E. Shyong from NUS who elaborated on precision medicine applications via Singapore’s National Precision Medicine Programme. In addition, a research exhibition by students was also held.

Dilahirkan pada 11 Mac 1970 di Pantai Remis, Perak, beliau telah memulakan kerjayanya sebagai Pegawai Tadbir dan Diplomatik pada 15 Januari 1996 dan pernah berkhidmat sebagai Timbalan Setiausaha Kerajaan (Pembangunan) Negeri Selangor, Pengarah Pejabat Tanah dan Galian Negeri Selangor dan Pegawai Daerah di Hulu Selangor dan Gombak.
