Dato’ Ahmad Suaidi Abdul Rahim shaking hands with Dato’ Seri Saarani Mohamad

BAGAN DATUK, 20 November 2025 – HRH Sultan of Perak, Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah officiated the Proclamation Ceremony of Sultan Nazrin Shah Maritime Polytechnic (PMNS) here this morning.

Accompanying the Sultan were HRH Raja Permaisuri Perak Tuanku Zara Salim, HH Raja Muda Perak Raja Jaafar Raja Muda Musa and HH Raja DiHilir Perak Raja Iskandar Dzurkarnain Sultan Idris Shah.

Also present were Deputy Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Diraja Dr. Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, Perak Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Saarani Mohamad and wife Datin Seri Aezer Zubin, Orang Kaya Bendahara Seri Maharaja Gen. (Rtd) Dato’ Seri DiRaja Tan Sri (Dr.) Mohd. Zahidi Zainuddin and wife Toh Puan Datin Seri DiRaja Puan Sri Hajah Rasiah Md. Nor, State Assembly Speaker Dato’ Seri Mohammad Zahir Abdul Khalid and wife Datin Seri Aznee Abu Samah, Higher Education Minister Dato’ Seri Diraja Dr. Zambry Abdul Kadir, State Secretary Dato’ Ahmad Suaidi Abdul Rahim and wife Datin Che Fauziah Ahmad.

State Legal Adviser Dato’ Azmir Shah Zainal Abidin, State Financial Officer Dato’ Mohd Zaki Mahyudin, State Exco Members, State Chieftains and their spouses, and heads of state and federal departments were also in attendance.

At the ceremony, His Royal Highness officiated the proclamation and signed the inauguration plaque before touring the exhibition area showcasing Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) academic development, maritime technology and student projects.

In his speech, Dato’ Seri Diraja Dr. Zambry said PMNS, the nation’s 35th polytechnic was established in December 2016 with the vision of producing highly skilled human capital in the field of maritime engineering and technology.

“The first intake in 2017 via the Diploma in Shipbuilding Architecture made it the only TVET polytechnic focusing on maritime and shipping. Today, this polytechnic stands proudly on 12.14 hectares of land, developed at a cost of RM175 million and fully completed in 2023 — a beacon of knowledge reflecting the Government’s determination to strengthen the county’s maritime TVET,” he elaborated.

He described the proclamation of the Sultan’s name as not just an honour, but a great trust guiding all polytechnic staff to always uphold noble values, dignity and high morals as exemplified by His Royal Highness.

The establishment of this polytechnic is also in line with the aspirations of Malaysia MADANI and the Blue Economy agenda to strengthen marine sustainability and future maritime technology.
